Who doesn’t like to take their dog out for an adventure? I know I love it and I love to take those clear shots for future memories. A picture can say a thousand words! With that said, as a dog owner, we need to have a good camera for dog photography that can do more than just take regular shots. We want to be able to take action shots as well and capture all the excitement of our dog at the moment.
The problem with most dog photography shots is that my dog tends to move around a lot. That makes it extremely difficult for me to capture perfect shots.
I later learned from a close friend of mine, a photographer, that you need a good camera in order to capture those amazing shots. Ideally, we need a camera that can be good for dog photography as well as capturing dog action shots.
In this article, I’ll tackle the best camera for dog photography including dog action shots for 2017.
This is no doubt my most favorite camera for taking dog photography. I actually use it for my travels as well and use this for taking dog action shots too. It’s loved by the photography community and loved by most dog owners.
It is a little bit more on the pricey side, but I always believe that you get what you pay for. This camera is super high in quality and will capture all your dog shots in crystal clear.
If you visit this link on Amazon, it will take you to the bundle package that you can see in the picture and that comes with almost EVERYTHING that you need to get started with taking dog photography. It comes with the tripod, the SD cards, case protectors, lens, and many more. This is the ultimate starter package for anyone looking to start taking dog photography.
The camera isn’t too big and it’s the perfect size for any type of adventure. It’s quite beginners friendly and easy to use. All the lens can be swapped out for more powerful lens in the future, but I found that the default lens were more than enough to capture high-quality dog photography.
Another thing I love is that this camera is able to capture crystal clear images even when my dog is jumping or running around. This makes it a very good action shot camera as well.
It may be expensive. Matter of fact, SUPER expensive, but if you’re looking for the best camera money can buy right now, then Nikon’s fabulous D850 DSLR pretty much ticks every box. This camera comes packed in a brilliant 45.4MP full-frame sensor and image quality is stunning. Literally I can say that this is the best image quality that you can get.
The camera comes with a sophisticated 153-point AF system and 9fps burst shooting speed, the D850 is just a home shooting action and wildlife as it is landscapes and portraits. The Nikon D850 is perhaps the most well-rounded camera I’ve ever came across.
This is the ultimate camera for taking the clearest dog action shots under any type of weather or time. It works quite well at night time as well and can still capture the best quality shots even when it’s dark.
If your an action junkie like me and like to take your dog on crazy adventures, then the GoPro Hero 5 is the best action shot camera for you. With its stunning 4K video, one-button simplicity and voice control, HERO5 Session may be the ultimate combination of performance and small size. Liquid-smooth image stabilization, waterproof design and go-anywhere durability help capture life as you live it. And when it’s time to edit and share, HERO5 Session can automatically upload footage and pictures directly to your computer.
What I love the most about the GoPro Hero 5 is that it is highly portable. Seriously, it’s the most light-weight camera that you can use for action shots. They even come with a free video and photo editing app that you can use to create awesome videos. It’s the best way to capture the best moments.
My favorite settings for this camera is:
– 1080 resolution
– Linear FOV
– 30 FPS
– EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) ON
– ProTune ON (advanced in-app setting) *Turning this on really bumps the bit-rate (quality) of your video, obviously at the expense of larger file sizes.
– Flat Color Profile (app) *GoPro Color Profile if I don’t feel like adjusting in post.
– 400 ISO (app) *because I prefer as little noise as possible, and am happy to have darker low-light performance instead of noisy low-light performance.
– No LED *much less intimidating for subjects this way.
– No BEEPS *much stealthier this way.
This allows me to capture the best action shots of my dog without any delay or blur.
This isn’t the cheapest digital camera out there, but I love how portable it is and believe me, the pictures come out crystal clear as well.
This camera is a beauty from the start with it’s high-quality build along with advanced settings. This camera comes with:
- 24.3MP X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor with no low-pass filter and X-Processor Pro
- 8 way focus lever + the number of focusing points has been expanded from 49 in previous models to 91 (up to 325 points).
- Built-in Iso dial, incorporated into the shutter speed dial
- AF mode(single / Zone / wide-tracking)
- New np-w126s lithium battery
There are a lot of options out there when it comes to picking a camera for dog photography and dog action shots, but those are the most recommended by all the professional photographer and dog owners. You can’t go wrong with any of those above. It’s more on the pricey end, but I like to think of it as an investment that will pay off. Capturing my dog’s moments and saving memory is important to me.
